BIO
Mina Samy is an Egyptian composer and music producer based in London and Cairo. He contributed as an additional composer to StudioCanal's upcoming documentary Becoming Hitchcock: The Legacy of Blackmail, set to premiere on HBO, collaborating with award-winning composer Blair Mowat. His debut feature, Light: The Tale of Day's Family, has been selected as the opening film for the 4th edition of the renowned Red Sea Film Festival and will also be featured in Berlinale Generation 2024. Currently, Mina is working on Stopped, a new documentary short produced by the Academy Award-winning UK production company Slick Films.
Starting as a self-taught musician in Egypt, Mina earned a full scholarship to pursue a master's in Composition for Screen at the Royal College of Music in London. Graduating at the top of his class, he was awarded the prestigious Joseph Horovitz Prize for his outstanding achievements.
After graduation, Mina was selected by multi-Emmy-nominated composer Miriam Cutler and Sony Pictures Television's Senior Vice President of Television Music, Tony Scudellari, to participate in the exclusive Composer Filmmaker Accelerator Program at the Vancouver International Film Festival, where he recorded a score with the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra. He was also recently invited to join the THRIVE development program, led by esteemed composer Lorne Balfe.
Mina's compositions have garnered widespread recognition. He received a Silver Medal of Outstanding Achievement in Composition at the Global Music Awards. Additionally, he ranked among the top five composers in the Oticons Faculty competition in 2024 and the Call for Score competition, organized globally by the European Recording Orchestra.
